I Picked Flowers Instead

That pleasure which is at once the most pure, the most elevating and the most intense, is derived, I maintain, from the contemplation of the beautiful.

Edgar Alan Poe

This series takes some inspiration from Vernon Watkins’ line 'I observed the designing of flowers' in Taliesin and The Mockers.

I Picked Flowers Instead is the beginning of Brancher’s most recent series of works which use camera less photography techniques to document flowers. The physical act of making the images transforms Brancher’s studio into the body of a camera, where the scanner is the lens. Layered sheets of glass, the intricate composition of the flowers and the open back of the scanner lead to captivating images with great depth.

The project was featured in European Prospects, more on their website.
